How does the Laser Tattoo Removal work?

Artists create tattoos by injecting ink into a person's skin. The needle penetrates through the epidermis (the first layer of skin) deep into the dermis (the second layer) depositing drops of insoluble ink here. The cells of the dermis are far more stable than the cells of the epidermis creating a tattoo with minor fading and dispersion. Tattoos are actually a complicated inflammatory process. Every time during tattooing when the needle penetrates (50 to 3000 times a minute) it alerts the body to signal an inflammatory response causing immune cells to race to the site of "injury". The body's defence cells, the macrophages, try to gobble up the ink dye, however, the ink dye particles are bigger than the macrophages, rendering the majority of the tattoo untouched. Only very small ink particles can be 'faded" by the body. Q-switched lasers deliver short bursts of light that penetrate deep into the dermis. The tattoo pigment absorbs this light energy shattering the dye pigments.The immune system then harmlessly gradually absorbs the fragmented ink particles through the lymphatic system.

Immediate to 2 hours	There may be Oozing, redness. Skin may feel warm and appear a little sensitive and pink. Apply ice cold compresses over the treated area when you get home to accelerate recovery. Apply antiseptic cream Avoid irritating the treated area in any way by rubbing or touching the area. A scab or thin crust will be forming and skin needs to heal well under this. Typically this lasts for 7-10 days.
Till 24 hours	Avoid excessive hot water or cold water Avoid strongly scented lotions or soaps, exfoliating creams, and scrubbing Avoid picking or scratching at the skin Apply sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun.
24 to 72 hours	While your skin is still red… Avoid using AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) or Vitamin A products Avoid swimming pools and spas with multiple chemicals/chlorine Avoid activities that cause excessive perspiration
3 days +	Always remember to apply your sunscreen everyday to protect your skin from the sun to avoid repeat damage.
